The Sun Devils are very thankful to our volunteers for their commitment and dedication. We appreciate you more than you know and could not do this without you! You have the greatest impact on the player’s skills development and overall enjoyment of their time with the Sun Devils. We are looking for coaches who believe in teaching skills and fundamental concepts in a safe manner. We are looking for coaches who are positive mentors and model the tenets of leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
As a football coach for the STYFL Sun Devils Youth Football Association, I agree to:
ONGOING
- Remember that Sun Devil Football is for the children and not the adults, and that coaching is a privilege.
- Do my best to help athletes develop an appreciation for the sport in an enjoyable environment.
- Promote good sportsmanship and fair play in all situations, including respecting the referees and other field personnel.
- Use positive encouragement to increase confidence and build self esteem in players.
- Provide a positive role model for all players by treating players, cheerleaders, parents, coaches, opponents, and referees with the utmost respect.
- Encourage all players to maintain high academic standards, and work with parents to resolve any issues.
- Be prompt in attending meetings, practices, and games. Show respect in language and behavior at all times.
- Complete the background check each year by the deadline provided by the Club, as requested by the Town of Queen Creek
- Complete the concussion protocal call every year, by the deadline provided by the Club
- Support Sun Devil Board members and other coaches in their activities.
- Support and promote any fundraising events and other functions of the STYFL Sun Devils Youth Football Association.
- Abide by the rules set forth in the Parent’s Code of Ethics and Zero Tolerance Policy.
OFF-SEASON
- Assist at football spring/summer camps.
- Attend a coaches meeting as required in July 2025.
FOOTBALL SEASON
- Place the player’s emotional and physical well being ahead of winning at all times.
- Be in attendace at practice every night during the month of September, unless previously arranged with Head Coaches.
- Be in attendance at all practices throughout the season, unless previously arranged with the Head Coaches.
- Assist players in maintaining their equipment throughout the season, to ensure player safety.
- Confirm players have all the required equipment before allowing their participating in practice or games.
- Maintain coaches and club equipment throught the season. You are responsible for making sure players do not mistreat club equipment (to include tables, coolers, and canopy).
- Conduct practices and games in a safe and healthy environment.
- Teach players safe and approved football fundamentals and skills.
- Supervise all players until they are picked up after practices and games.
- Teach players to treat all fieldsrespectfully, by picking up after themselves and not damaing property or equipment.
- Maintain appropriate sideline manner during all practices and games.
GAMES
- Responsible for club set-up and break-down of the field for the first game and the last game of the day.
In addition to the guidelines indicated above, as a Head Football Coach for STYFL Sun Devils Youth Football Association, I agree to:
FOOTBALL SEASON
- Develop an adequate coaching staff to assist with practices and games.
- Be in attendance at practice every night during the first two weeks, unless previously arranged with the GM of Football Operations.
- Be in attendance at all practices throughout the season, unless adequate coverage has been arranged with assistant coaches.
- Participate in all requested meetings throughout the year, to include the off-season.
- Report all injuries (practices, games, and injuries outside of practice that require a doctor’s note to return to play) to the GM of Club Operations within 24 hours of the injury.
- Familiarize yourself and your coaching staff with basic first aid and emergency protocols.
- Monitor player absences and not allow players to practice or play if ill or injured.
- Communicate effectively with both players and parents regarding parent and player expectations and STYFL rules and instructional quarter.
- Develop a practice schedule that makes the best use of all players time.
- Recruit a Team Administrator and other parent volunteers to assist with all game day responsibilities.
- Report serious parent issues promptly to the General Managers.
- Be responsible for the conduct of players, coaching staff, parents, and spectators during all team activities.
GAMES
- Adjust playing time as needed for players missing practices for any reason.
- Create a working relationship with cheer squad assigned to your team.
- Report any game day issues promptly to the GM of Football Operations. This especially includes injuries requiring transportation to the hospital or ejections from the game that require further disciplinary action.
- Last Game of the Day: You must bring all equipment to the Thursday practice for transfer to Division 1 Head Coach. If you are unable to keep the equipment until Thursday, it may be dropped off at the GM of Club Operations home.
STYFL SUN DEVILS YOUTH FOOTBALL COACH CODE OF CONDUCT
As a Sun Devil Football coach, I understand and agree to support the following Code of Conduct:
- I will create a positive, safe, and healthy environment for all participants and their families, free of abuse and harassment.
- I will not criticize athletes in front of spectators, but reserve constructive criticism for later, in private, or in the presence of team members if others might benefit.
- I will accept the decisions of the game officials and judges on the field and in competitions as being fair and called to the best ability of said officials.
- I will not criticize an opposing team, its athletes, coaches, or fans by word of mouth or gesture.
- I will emphasize that good athletes strive to be good students and that both are physically and mentally alert.
- I will strive to make every athletic activity serve as a training ground for life, and a basis for good mental and physical health.
- I will remove from a game, competition, or practice any athlete when even slightly in doubt about his/her health, whether or not as a result of injury until competent medical advice is available.
- I will emphasize that winning is the result of good teamwork.
- I will not engage in excessive sideline coaching and shall not leave the coaches box.
- Together with the team officials, I will be jointly responsible for the conduct and control of team fans and spectators at all times. Any fan who becomes a nuisance and out of control will be asked to leave.
- I will not use abusive or profane language at any time.
- I will not permit an ineligible athlete to participate in a game/competition.
- I will not deliberately incite unsportsmanlike conduct.
- I will not possess or drink alcoholic beverages and/or use illegal substance(s) on the field, or during practice or game.
- I will not smoke, vape, and/or use smokeless tobacco on the field.
- I will uphold all rules and regulations regarding the Sun Devils Youth Football Club and the San Tan Youth Football League.
- I will act in a respectful and courteous manner at all times when on the field or representing the Sun Devils Youth Football Club or STYFL.
- My signature confirms that I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the Sun Devils Youth Football Club Coaches Code of Conduct Guidelines.
